Meet The Medicine: ROSE

Roses for Valentine’s Day. I hope you received this medicine from a beloved or gifted yourself this beautiful offering on this day of love celebration.

The petals of the rose offer heart softening and openness. In this way, roses are considered an aphrodisiac as we open to our partner and ourselves. As rose allows our bodies to soften, so too our blockages around libido are removed. Rose creates space for ourselves, our bodies, our beloved.

Petals of the rose increase liver chi to release bile for fat digestion. But beware, the liver is the seat of grief and anger. These emotions must be felt and dealt with in order for the liver to properly function. Rose will take you there.

Rose petal-infused water is perfect for acne, wounds, and (of course!) especially for rosacea. I have seen miracles working with clients using rose water topically and rose petal tincture orally for rosacea and acne (especially female hormonal acne).

The petals are astringent to tighten up the tissues related to leaky gut, diarrhea, and bladder leakage. And because plants work holistically, leaky thinking is also stopped up and astringed for those people experiencing life “all up in their head”.

The fruit of the rosebush, rose hips, are packed with vitamin C, bioflavonoids, vitamin E, vitamin K, and minerals which make hips ideal for nutritional supplementation as it is the most bioavailable form of vitamin C. Most vitamin C supplements contain synthetic ascorbic acid in high, unabsorbable doses.

Using rose hips before a period supports liver detoxification of female hormones, especially estrogen, while also lessening cramping by releasing blood to flow easily. And because plants work holistically, emotions are able to flow freely as well.

Rose hips are an incredible post-workout recovery tea as it allows the kidneys to flush lactic acid quickly rather than settling in the muscles. Goodbye leg day soreness!

The flower essence of Wild Rose offers joy and embrace of life with all of the challenges and beauty. Apathy and resignation dissolve with the increase of vitality offered through this medicine. I have seen this essence most effective for those who are physically ill and resigned to the idea of dying, although this is not necessarily the diagnosis.

Roses are as beautiful physically as well as medicinally. But be prepared. Herbs work multidimensionally and will take you on an emotional journey as the physical body heals. It’s all connected.
